This focus program involves researchers based mostly in the School of Media, Film & Journalism. Organised around four themes – mediatisation and social change; media publics; cultural economy; cultures, identities, subjectivities – Culture, Media, Economy will have a strong policy and industry focus alongside its commitment to high level academic research. We will appoint a globally renowned scholar to lead a three-year project on Big Data, Interactivity and Society, examining the social and cultural implications of data mining and algorithmic decision-making in cities. In parallel we launch an international Monash-industry partnership concerned with exploring digital infrastructures for participation in cultural planning, using real demonstrator projects in Melbourne and Shanghai.
The new talent for this Focus Program is Professor Mark Andrejevic.
